The easy way to find the best of Croatia hotels on the Internet!
Croatia is a country located in Central Europe with a history that dates back to the early seventh century. An advantage of such a long and interesting history is what gets left behind and preserved for future generations to learn from and enjoy. This is clearly seen in the many Croatian churches that date from a variety of time periods and are built in several different architectural styles. For example, St. Jacobs Cathedral is completely constructed from stone and was built almost continuously from 1431 to 1536. St. Jacob's renaissance style and stone materials make a trip to this Cathedral a priority for tourists. Contrasting this is the Church of St. Donatus. Construction on St. Donatus started (approximately) in the later part of the 8th century and has a large, cylindrical shape typical of the early Byzantine era. Thanks to its many ancient and well preserved structures, Croatia is home to seven World Heritage sites (Euphrasian Basilica, the cathedral of St. James, the Historic city of Trogir, the Palace of Diocletian, the old city of Dubrovnik, Plitvice Lakes, and Stari). Sixteen more locations in Croatia are on a tentative list to become World Heritage sites. Not to be outdone by man-made beauties, the natural landscape of Croatia will take your breath away. Eight national parks preserve Croatia's wild splendour while 11 nature parks allow you to fully appreciate the mountains, lakes and wildlife of this Country. From the waterfalls in Krka (which are considered to be the most beautiful calcium carbonate waterfalls in Europe) to the towering mountains of Velebit, you will stand in awe and amazement at the un-spoilt beauty of Croatia. It is important to note, however, that history has left its mark on Croatia in more ways than one. In late 2007 a landmine was located and removed from the southern part of Velebit where a former army facility was located. Additional land mines were discovered to exist and visitors are strongly discouraged from visiting this small localized area of Velebit. Fortunately threats like these are few and far between and are visibly marked to ensure you safety and well-being. Croatia should be on your list of places to see.
